PRAYING AND BELIEVING IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

 Saying, “I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ,” or “I believe in Jesus, so things will work,” should not be treated as a formula that guarantees the outcome we desire. 

 To pray in the name of Jesus means trusting him, recognizing his authority, and seeking what agrees with the Word and will of God.

 Likewise, genuine faith in Jesus is more than believing that he exists or simply mentioning his name. True faith should influence how we think, speak, decide, and act. Jesus said: “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 And: “Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” — Luke 6:46 James adds: “Faith without works is dead.” — James 2:26

 Therefore, “in Jesus’ name” should mean more than words at the end of a prayer. It should mean that what we ask and do is consistent with Jesus’ character, teachings, and the will of God. Our confidence should therefore not be: “I mentioned Jesus’ name, so things must work.” 

 Rather: “I have prayed, I trust God, and I am seeking to live and act according to His Word. I can therefore leave the outcome in His hands.” 

 We should also remember that answers may sometimes be delayed because the situation involves the choices and actions of other people. We may pray for others to act with love, kindness, justice, and compassion, but they still have the responsibility to choose obedience.  

True faith is not merely speaking the name of Jesus. It is trusting him, obeying him, and living consistently with what we believe.
